Health information technology is the nervous system of modern clinical operations. Behind every hospital encounter there is an EHR, ancillary systems, an HL7 v2 and HL7 FHIR messaging mesh, a clinical-decision engine and a health-information-exchange network.

This 16-hour Professional Certificate Course introduces EHR and ancillary-system architecture, the HL7 v2 (ADT, ORM, ORU, SIU) and HL7 FHIR standards (resources, RESTful interactions, SMART on FHIR), Clinical Decision Support with CDS Hooks, and Health Information Exchange (Direct, IHE, eHealth Exchange).

The Introductory course prepares participants for the Advanced level (HIM-621-A), where HIPAA privacy and security, the ONC Health IT Certification Program and the FDA regulation of clinical-decision-support software are developed in depth.

The Introductory course gives clinical-informatics, engineering and regulatory professionals the architecture and interoperability foundation on which every health-IT system and integration depends.

Participants who meet the course completion requirements receive a Certificate of Completion issued by Aleph University.
