Biomedical Instrumentation: Advanced
Develop Design Input, verification protocols, IEC 60601-1 applied-part classification and ISO 14971 risk control for electromedical instruments, including wearable and wireless devices.
Recommended prerequisite: completion of the Introductory level for this training, or relevant professional experience subject to Aleph University review.
Building on the fundamentals of the Introductory level, this Advanced course develops the engineering and regulatory discipline that turns an instrument concept into a verifiable, safe electromedical device. It connects sensor and signal-chain design to the requirements of IEC 60601-1, ISO 14971 and 21 CFR §820.30.
This 32-hour Professional Certificate Course covers respiratory instrumentation, capnography and advanced pulse oximetry; thermometry and clinical-chemistry analyzers; IEC 60601-1 applied-part classification and basic-safety / essential-performance testing; ISO 14971:2019 risk management applied to instrumentation; and the construction of Design Input and verification protocols under 21 CFR §820.30. It closes with wearable and wireless instrumentation and medical-device cybersecurity.
By the end, participants can draft a Design Input for a biomedical instrument, build a verification protocol with quantitative acceptance criteria, classify an applied part under IEC 60601-1 and justify risk-control decisions under ISO 14971, the technical foundation for design, verification and regulatory-submission roles.
The Advanced course connects instrument engineering to 21 CFR §820.30 and ISO 14971, the exact bridge between design and regulatory submission where most programs fall short. It prepares participants for design, verification, validation and quality roles in medical-device manufacturers and clinical-engineering programs.
Participants who meet the course completion requirements receive a Certificate of Completion issued by Aleph University.
